Everything you need to know
Visa Requirements+
Most nationalities can apply for a Ghana e-visa online before departure. Processing takes 5-7 business days. You'll need a valid passport (6+ months validity), passport photo, proof of accommodation, and yellow fever vaccination certificate. Our team can provide a booking confirmation letter and guide you through the entire process. Some nationalities qualify for visa on arrival — check the Ghana Immigration Service portal for the latest requirements.
Health & Vaccinations+
A yellow fever vaccination certificate is required for entry into Ghana. We strongly recommend malaria prophylaxis — consult your travel doctor at least 4 weeks before departure. The resort provides mosquito nets in every room and regular fumigation. Drink bottled water (provided in your room daily). We recommend comprehensive travel insurance that covers medical evacuation. The nearest hospital is in Cape Coast, 20 minutes away.
Packing Essentials+
Pack light, breathable clothing — cotton and linen work best. SPF 50+ sunscreen is essential (hard to find locally). Bring DEET-based insect repellent, comfortable walking shoes for castle tours and nature walks, a UK-type-G power adapter, a sun hat, and a light rain jacket if visiting during the wet season (April–July). Swimwear, of course, and a light cardigan for air-conditioned restaurants.
Currency & Money+
The local currency is the Ghanaian Cedi (GHS). US dollars are accepted at the resort and most tourist-facing businesses. ATMs are available in Elmina and Cape Coast (15-20 min drive). Visa and Mastercard are accepted at the resort. We recommend carrying some cash in small denominations for local markets, tipping, and taxis. Currency exchange is available at the airport and in Cape Coast.
Getting There+
Fly into Kotoka International Airport (ACC) in Accra. From there, it's approximately a 3-hour drive west along the coast to Elmina. We offer private airport transfer service — your driver will meet you at arrivals with a sign. Alternatively, you can take a domestic flight to Takoradi (30 min) and drive 1 hour east to the resort. Road conditions are good along the main coastal highway.
Climate & Best Time to Visit+
Ghana has a tropical climate with warm temperatures year-round (25-32°C). The dry season from November to March offers the best weather — sunny days, low humidity, and warm evenings. The rainy season runs from April to July with afternoon showers that rarely last long. Even in the wet season, mornings are typically sunny and beautiful. Sea temperature hovers around 27°C year-round.
Culture & Language+
English is the official language of Ghana, so communication is effortless. Ghanaians are renowned for their hospitality — expect warm greetings, genuine smiles, and offers to help. Tipping is appreciated but not mandatory: 10% at restaurants, small tips for guides and drivers. Dress modestly when visiting villages or religious sites. Photography etiquette: always ask before photographing people.
